Capital City Dance Studio offers a wide variety of classes for children of all ages and skill levels. The classes we offer are listed below.
Enrollment for 2008-2009 classes begins on June 23, 2008. Please visit our Registration page to view our Class Schedule and Online Registration form.
PLEASE NOTE: Our “cutoff date” for age grouping is October 1st. For example, if your child will be turning 6 in September, he/she will need to register for a class in the 6-8-year-old age range, even though he/she will begin class in August as a 5-year-old. If your child will be turning 6 after October 1st, he/she will need to register in the 4-5-year-old age group.
EXCEPTION: All Pre-Dance students must be 3 years old by the first class of the 2008-2009 dance year.
CLASSES:
PRE-DANCE (for 3-year-olds only)
Incorporates creative movement, self expression and elementary tumbling. Classes are 30 minutes in length.
BALLET COMBINATION CLASSES
Available for younger students who benefit from experiencing two subjects in a single-class format.
Ballet/Tap and Ballet/Gymnastics
Generally grouped as 4-5 year olds and 6-8 year olds. Classes are 45 minutes in length.
PLEASE NOTE: 4-5 YEAR OLDS ARE RECOMMENDED TO TAKE ONE YEAR OF BALLET/GYMNASTICS BEFORE TAKING BALLET/TAP.
GYMNASTICS (6-9 YEAR OLDS)
Students learn correct tumbling technique with the help of mats and various tumbling equipment. Basics for cheerleading (splits, cartwheels, etc.) are included, as well as basic dance moves for stage performances.
JAZZ COMBINATION CLASSES (8-10 YEAR OLDS)
Available for students old enough to take jazz (8 years old by October 1st of the dance year) who want to experience hip-hop, technique, and an additional subject class format.
JAZZ/TAP: One hour in length due to the complexity of the subjects.
JAZZ/GYMNASTICS: 45 minutes in length.
PRE-POINTE (9+ YEAR OLDS)
Instruction on proper body placement and position in preparation for possible future pointe work. Classes are 45 minutes in length.
POINTE
Offered at the discretion of the teacher or studio staff. Classes are 45 minutes in length.
SINGLE-SUBJECT FORMAT CLASSES
JAZZ (11+ YEAR OLDS)
11-13 year olds: Concentration on technique and body alignment as well as various styles of jazz.
14 year olds and High School students: Introduction to a higher level of difficulty with a focus on the theatrical interpretation of music.
Jazz classes are 30-45 minutes in length depending upon the level of student.
TAP (11+ YEAR OLDS)
Continued development in a student’s sense of rhythm with an emphasis on stage presence and style. Classes are 30 minutes in length.
LYRICAL (11+ YEAR OLDS)
Interpretation of music though freestyle movement. Aids dancers in becoming less self-conscious as they build confidence in expressing themselves in a more sophisticated style suited for older students. Classes are 30-45 minutes in length depending upon level of student.
